"RED FLAG WEATHER WARNING" FROM THE NWS?
A red flag warning is a forecast warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) to inform the public, firefighters, and land management agencies that conditions are ideal for wildfire combustion, and rapid spread. These include drought conditions or a dry season, very low humidity, high or erratic winds, and/or the possibility of lightning. In our area, this means we have a heightened chance of brush and field fires, mulch fires and fires in the woods.  This can even be in your back yard with brush and wood piles.
  • Be cautious with smoking
  • Clear dead grass and brush from around your home
  • Avoid activities that could spark a fire including lawn mowing
  • Keep vehicles off dry grass
  • Avoid open flames like fire pits, using barbecues, etc.
  • Stay informed!  Follow the PHVFC Weather Alerts Facebook page!
